Victory Is Ours – True Communication will Succeed

25 08 2008

I heard this report from NPR this morning on the way to work. Link

The public’s voice has been heard. Mr. William Shanahan has left the building. Unfortunatily so has the FHSU debate program until further notice. One can only hope equivalent repercussions were also dealt to the Pittsburgh coach for said profanities on her part.

Perhaps a lesson can be leanred on the transmission of message. True communication has been made. According to the KC Star, 250 people including myself contacted Provost Gould about the incident and voiced their opinion. That coupled w/ the universitie’s policies helped to oust this would-be coach.

Many people agree with Mr. Shanahan that this is the form of debate, contrary to the vast majority. Symantics may infer that if this is the current trend, that it should be renamed to: arguments or tantrums. I have often seen such debate techniques between parent/child in Wal-Mart.

I’m going to be a dad!!! Emily tested positive for baby last Monday night and again on Tuesday morning. We’re excited, and fyi tmi it was planned. Well as well as one can plan for such things. I admit we weren’t obsessing over conceiving , but we were ready to let things happen.

Please keep us in your prayers for a healthy happy baby and that our finances remain solid. Thanks!

Follow up one FHSU Prof.

My adviser replied to my email and suggested I share my sentiments with the university Provost, since I’m an illustrious Alum and all ;) . Anyway I basically added a little to my original email and sent it on to Provost Gould. I wasn’t expecting a response, but I did get one at about 11:50 PM last night.

Thanks, Matthew.   Your comments will help the current investigation we have underway.   Beyond the obvious that FHSU does not condone the language or the behavior in the video, we need to protect the rights of all parties involved.

Take care,  LG

Now I know that he’s trying to be very PC, but I think they’re leaning on keeping Prof.  Shanahan, just based on my communication expertise. I know that they have Bill Shanahan b/c he’s irreverent and childish. He draws that type of attention to the university. He has even coached a national championship winning team. I lean to believe that the team had more to do with their success than the coach since they haven’t won a championship since.

I believe that the best publicity for the debate team would be academic success. The lack of sportsmanship show by you-know-who is not something I want representing my Alma Matter. Lets get students that are interested in learning and maintaining academic integrety rather than ones that might be inclined to create a spectical.
