New Bike – I need one

31 03 2009

I’ve fallen in love with Felt bikes today. They have some that are just too cool. I really need something newer for commuting. The company I work for is moving much closer to where I live. Making it feasible for me to bike, which is something most people should be doing.

Tanzanian Tiger Blend – La Prima Tazza, Lawrence, KS

26 03 2009

I bought this blend last weekend. Sunday morning I was out with the locals sipping a bit of Velvet Sumatra outside of this establishment. I knew that I wanted to take home a pound of good coffee, since Hays is near devoid of good fresh whole bean.

To be perfectly honest I went with the Tiger because of my Alma Matter. However it is an Arabica blend, which I prefer over South American Blends.

I’m very pleased with this brew. Its on the lighter side of bold, and has a straight forward full bodied flavor without being complex. The aroma is warm and full with a hint of sweetness.

I strongly recommend this roast if you are in the Lawrence area.

Until next cup, Coffii

Tough Economic Times

20 03 2009

Monday two of my coworkers were laid off.  One of them was a close friend of mine and the other techie. It’s been a depressing week, its been quiet and its been hard. I’ve had to get on his computer this week and pick up some of the backups that were running on that computer. I managed to get them running again, but there are other responsibilities that he had because they were more his forte than mine. Part of me thinks I won’t have to figure this stuff out because he’ll just be back Monday.

I was talking with one of the other office members that are still here. She put the layoffs a very poignant way. She said its like our family divorced two family members. I think that’s a very accurate way to describe it. I miss them both tremendously at work.

My techie friend had an interview today in Hays. I hope that if the gets it its everything he wants and needs. I’ve been praying a lot for him that his reemployment is swift and fulfilling.

Still in the back of my mind I wonder if I’m next. I know my position is important to keep the company going, but I’m not the only way it can function. I have a pregnant wife at home who earlier this year was also a victim of these times. She was downsized from the hospital where she worked. Now we have to go back there to have our child this April. Pretty scary stuff to be the dad and husband right now.

I can’t feel too sorry for myself, hears to my friends and others who are suffering now because of job losses. God help us all in these dark times.
